You can seal your counters yourself in about 15 minutes with the right product and process. For disinfecting countertops use a solution of 1 2 cup clorox regular bleach 2 per gallon of water. Using a granite sealer like granite gold sealer start by cleaning your granite then spray the sealer on the stone in three foot sections. Spray granite sealant over the countertop and leave it to seep into the stone for 5 minutes.

Bleach can be used to clean granite but if the corrosive liquid is allowed to sit too long on the material it can eat through the protective layer of sealant. Aside from disinfecting granite countertops it is also important to coat their surfaces with sealant. In all reality granite and other smooth stone countertops don t need to be disinfected per se. Remember bleach should never be used full strength for cleaning any surface it should always be diluted with water first. Because of this fact it just doesn t play well with most kitchen countertops. Regardless of the type of granite or seal what doesn t vary is what you should not be cleaning your granite countertops with. Sealing your granite counters regularly prevents stains and damage from stain treating products like bleach.

The sealant acts as a barrier between the granite and the stains and dirt.
